Your Volunteering Year
A TfG volunteer programme is on average between 10 months to 12 months. We believe this enough time for a volunteer to experience a meaningful year and to gain valuable skills and experience going forward. This is enough time for the host placement to gain meaningfully from hosting a volunteer.
Your TfG Year in a nutshell
Our recruitment runs throughout the year with cohorts starting every August / September and January. The recruitmment process can take anything between 3 - 6 months. Once you have been matched with a placement you will be guided through the process of applying for a visa to volunteer in the UK.
Here are the key stages of the year:
Arrival
August / September or January - Arrive in the UK depending on chosen start date and placement.
First few weeks are your settling in period. During this period you will supported by TfG Field Officer and your placement. The settling period is anywhere between 3- 4 weeks depending on the project. This may include induction and training at your placement.
September - TfG conference where new cohort of volunteers gather for a few days of inspirational talks and workshops to equip you with all you need to know about life in the UK. This is where all volunteers get a chance to mingle and make friends that will help support their journey throughout the year. It's also a time of fun games and relaxation before embarking on volunteering work.
February - Volunteers from both the September and January cohorts attend the mid year conference. This is mainly a volunteer led conference that shines the spotlight on volunteers and their individual journeys. TfG staff will facilitate workshops and activities.
June / July or November / December - Volunteers attend seminars to undertake reflection and prepare for re-entry to their home countries.
